About us Awarding the city of Indianapolis the opportunity to host the Super Bowl of 2012 is almost recognition in itself and confirmation of its capacity to host various and important sporting events in its own right. Beyond these obvious facts, however, the city is also a booming, vibrant and diverse metropolitan area that has seen its first wave of Haitian immigrants in the mid 1990’s. The second wave of Haitian immigrants arrived in the city around the end of the 1990’s when news about this family friendly city, with affordable housing and job opportunities started reaching Haitians living both in New York and Florida.
As this thriving mid-west city continues to expand and develop economically, its core demographic has profoundly shifted along with its economic boom; attracting thousands more immigrants from all continents the world over. Africans, Asians, Latinos and Haitians alike are among the many constituents that now make up the diverse population that this beautiful city enjoys today.
In the strong and ancient tradition of people coming together to promote culture, diversity, language and history; many organizations have been formed throughout the city and are striving to make a difference within their respective community as they contribute to the preservation not only of their past, but also their culture and their identity. Using this tradition as a framework of how we too can organize, Haitians of this rapidly changing and diverse community feel the urgent need to be proactive in bringing together their own fragmented community and help to strengthen it by establishing a foundation. In this regard, today we form the “Haitian Association of Greater Indianapolis” whose aim is to bring together Haitians of all walks of life to serve and meet the various needs of this growing group.
